So these all above things related to food? Answer: of course yes! Nepalese Dishes has its own unique story related to the history, culture, traditions, and religion Nepalese follow. Most people are only aware of Chinese Dishes, Spanish, Mexican, Korean, Thai, and other nations. Only a few are aware of Nepalese food. And also many people think there are few dishes in Nepal and also believe that most Nepalese food has Indian style but that is 100% false. Today I will be explaining some of the popular dishes prepared in every kitchen of Nepalese related to the region they live in.
POPULAR FOODS PEOPLE OF NEPAL EATS REGULARLY
With the present date, some of the Nepalese dishes are quite popular all over the world and many visitors love traveling and experience these dishes. And because of the popularity of these dishes, many people started establishing local restaurant offering Nepalese dishes and promote their business.DAL, BHAT, AND TARKARI
GHUNDRUKH AND DHEDO
This is the very common dish Nepalese proud eating. As Nepal has a high production of rice in the past, people depend on rice. It has become like a tradition of eating Dal, Bhat Tarkari as their regular food. And it is eaten twice a day as a breakfast and dinner. Basically, Bhat is Rice, and Dal is a special soup made up of season’s lentils. There are various kinds of Lentils people love to eat. And Tarkari is a curry that can be veg or non-veg eaten according to the season. Such as vegs like Potato, tomato, mushroom, green vegetables and meat items like chicken, buff, goat meat. It is now served in many hotels and restaurants and can easily eat any part of Nepal and is hygienic. At present, it is also called Thakali food which people are crazy about it. When travel you should try once this dish which is inexpensive, hygienic and can eat as you want. Most interesting is you don’t need to pay extra when you add some more to your plate and people love eating with their hand than using spoons and fork.
When traveling villages of Nepal. You are served with another special dish which is called Dhedo. Dhedo is a popular traditional cuisine prepared hilly region of Nepal mostly in the village. Nepalese, as well as tourists, loves eating Dhedo when traveling village because the climate and the village production make it special which even people living in town areas have not experienced. Therefore, they are crazy about Dhedo. Dhedo can be made up of cornflour or wheat flour and is much healthy. This has its own style of eating. Dhedo is can be eaten with chicken or other soups. But best is eating with Ghundrukh. Ghundrukh is another popular dish made up of fermenting leafy green vegetables. Ghundruk is commonly a Nepalese Aachar (Pickle) which does not have its own taste but with the different added seasonings make it salty or spicy. Ghundrukh can also be eating with Dal, Bha, and Tarkari.
One of my favorite dish and the most popular dish of Kathmandu valley which is eaten mostly by the Newar community in Nepal. Culturally, Samaya Baji is a traditional dish eaten during various occasions, festivals, and rituals. But with the popularity, people started serving as the regular dish in different hotels, restaurants, and local bars in Nepal especially in Kathmandu valley and is now served in different parts of their world. Baji (Nepali language: Chura) is beaten rice which is popularly eaten by Newar Community people in Nepal. Samaya Baji is not actual a dish but is a collection of various dish such as Baji (Chura), Black Soybeans (Newari: Musya), Boiled egg, finely cut Ginger and Garlic, potato, Tomato Aachar, Spinach, Radish Pickle, and meat items like Chhewla (Marinated Buffalo Meat), Chicken, and Mushroom. With Samaya Baji, you will also be served with a Newari local drink either Rice Beer (Thowo) or Aayla (Alcohol).
Another favorite food of Nepal, People loves eating is Momo which is also known as Momo Cha in Nepal Bhasa and Nepali Dumplings. It is said that Momo was introduced in Nepal by a Newar Trader when going to Tibet and learn the recipe and created with their Nepalese style and so is famous all over Nepal and also in South Asian Countries. Momo has become one of the traditional food of Nepal. It is made up of white flour and water dough to make an outer covering of Momo and add vegetables, meat, cheese, or Khoa is eaten dipping in the special sauce or pickle ( Aachar). Therefore Momo you can be eaten by Vegetarians or meat products when travel.
Thukpa is another popular dish of Nepal which is mainly eaten in the northern Himalayas region of Nepal, Kathmandu valley and Pokhara. Thukpa is a hot noodle soup with vegetables and Chicken/ egg/ buff and is popularly eaten during winter to warm up their body. Thukpa comes as one of my favorite dishes and I often eat during the winter season. This is another I would like to recommend to taste when traveling to Nepal especially during the winter season in the Himalayan region of Nepal, Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara.
Newari Classical or traditional soup which is popularly eaten in Nepal is one of the great tastes of Nepal. During various feast (Bhoj) of Newari People, Aalu Tama is prepared and enjoy eating. Aalo Tama is prepared using various ingredients such as Black-eyed Beans, Potatoes, Sliced Radish, Carrot, and Nepalese seasonings. Aalu Tama is now popularly served as a dish in various hotels and Traditional restaurants and also it is prepared other functions in Newari’s houses.
When you travel to Bhaktapur, You will find different shops where is written ‘Juju Dhau’. Bhaktapur Curd is the best Curd in whole Nepal, Therefore, Bhaktapur Curd is known as Juju Dhau which means ‘The King of Curd’. It has a separate history of how Bhaktapur curd is called as Juju Dhau. Newari People of Kathmandu originated the curd and eaten as sweet dishes and also known as holy food in Newari Culture. Various functions and rituals there is a compulsory need for curd. The curd is popularly eating during Feast (Bhoj) in Nepal. Many Tourists when traveling to Bhaktapur City, get easily attracted to the Newari culture and Newari food so is sweet dish Juju Dhau. Newari people have a tradition of eating curd at the end of the feast as a dessert and helps for digestion.
Puwa is another traditional food of Nepal which is regarded as one the holy food and is offered to god and is popular in the western part of Nepal especially Dang. Puwa is made up of rice, suji or Semolina which helps in the satisfaction of hunger, therefore, In present people love eating it as their snacks.
